Walk Like a Refugee 2018 took place from May 8-14. We walked from Toronto to Niagara Falls, we laughed, we walked, we sang, we walked, we ate, we walked, we slept, we walked….then we got to Niagara Falls and went on the Hornblower (which used to be called the Maid of the Mist. I dunno…)
And we reached our fundraising goal of $10,000! Yay us! To read about where these funds will go, pease visit our About Us page.
And YAY YOU! Thank you to our donors, and to our supporters who looked after us and put us up for the night. Among these are Pete from Sweet Pete’s Bike Shop, who loaned us a trailer for the kid, and Michelle from Diggity Dog and Lonesome Kitty hotel, who looked after our dog Biggie Smalls while we were gone.
We were also offered accommodation by The Casablanca Winery Inn & Spa in Grimsby, and the White Oaks Resort & Spa in Niagara on the Lake. These generous people made our lives much better and easier. So did our friends in Oakville, Dundas, and St. Catherines who also put us up – and put up with us – for nights.
We’re grateful for all of you for helping us make a tiny difference to two of the approximately 22 million refugees in the world. On a macro level, this might seem like an insurmountable problem. On micro level, everything matters, and every bit of help makes a difference to someone.
We hope to do it again next year.
